Recently, I went to urgent care because I was having challenges with my allergies. I suspected I had an ear infection. I was wrong. It turned out I had a middle ear problem called Otitis Media. This occurs in the middle ear when in my case, clear fluid got stuck in there, creating inflammation. Thankfully, I did not need antibiotics! The doctor did suggest ordering an Otovent. “What’s an Otovent?” you may be asking. Basically, it’s a plastic base and a balloon! You have to blow up the balloon with one nostril. Sounds crazy, I know. Multitudes of people say it has worked for them! Today, I tried it, and it worked for me, too! Hallelujah!
To use the Otovent, you breathe and then exhale through your open nostril (the other is plugged) and try to blow up the balloon. Since it took two days to receive the Otovent via UPS (it is originally made in Sweden), I tried this process in the shower. I was amazed at the forceful air that one can expell through just one nostril! The Otovent provides the pressure required to open the Eustachian tube to help equalize the middle ear pressure. Think of a deep-sea diver coming up from great depths and needing to equalize the pressure they feel in their ears. Or, perhaps during airplane flights.
When I got home, I immediately started to research as I had never heard of this ailment, nor did my three children deal with it. It can also be called Glue Ear! I know this sounds really odd, but stay with me here! The Lord immediately let me know my ear has implications for the church, His ekklesia. You see, so many of us have our ears clogged to the Holy Spirit! We cannot hear what He is sharing. Our ears can be glued shut to His truth! We cannot hear how He is guiding us. And, we do not realize the power of His breath, God the Father’s breath inside of us!
Genesis 2:7 (The Message) shares, “At the time God made Earth and Heaven, before any grasses or shrubs had sprouted from the ground—God hadn’t yet sent rain on Earth, nor was there anyone around to work the ground (the whole Earth was watered by underground springs)—God formed Man out of dirt from the ground and blew into his nostrils the breath of life. The Man came alive—a living soul!” The God of heaven and Earth blew His very breath into you! His breath, and life are strong in us!
Perhaps you are in a church that does not allow Holy Spirit to freely flow or move upon people. God needs to unclog our middle ear so we can clearly hear and discern what He is teaching us, especially coming out of the crazy and confusing time of Covid-19.
Are you bruised and tired from this time and great upheaval in the world? Listen to Psalms 119:107 (TPT) “I’m bruised and broken, overwhelmed by it all; breathe life into me again by your living word.”
If a great harvest of revival is coming and I believe it has begun, what is the ekklesia doing to prepare? Are salvation messages being given? Are sin and repentance being spoken about from the pulpit? Are you and I falling in love with Jesus…today? Are you more in love with Him today than you were yesterday, realizing the freedom you have because of His great sacrifice paid at the cross of Calvary? Are you ready for His return?
How does Jesus wake us up so we can hear from Him again? I believe the Spirit of the Lord is saying I am going to breathe upon you…once again just like I did with Adam when I created him. Nostril to nostril.
A different version of Genesis 2:7 from the KJ21, says, “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.”
God breathed in life, and Adam exhaled. Then, Adam breathed again. He inhaled and exhaled.
His breathing became as natural as you and I breathe. We do not think about it; we just do. But God! He gives His people purpose, direction, and a calling. The problem is two-fold. We can breathe on our own, and we can tend to forget our Maker. We think we can control our church services to the micro-second. 15 minutes 30 seconds on worship. Twenty minutes on a message. Perhaps a testimonial or a one-and-a-half-minute video to knock your message out of the park. We do not leave room or time for Holy Spirit to breathe and move us. We do not allow Him time to move in signs, wonders, and miracles! And, what about giving the gospel message of Jesus at the cross? Is this being spoken during every service, so people have the opportunity to give their lives to Him? Jesus is coming back, and I want to be about His business, leading others to know Him and His abundant love and true, victorious identity!
We must let Holy Spirit amplify His breath in us! Breathe Him in and follow what He shares with you. Exhale and rest in His divine guidance. Get into His rhythm! Ps. 119: 73-74 “Your very hands have held me and made me who I am; give me more revelation-light, so I may learn to please you more. May all your devoted lovers see how you treat me and be glad, for your words are entwined with my heart.” Do you desire more of Jesus? Spend time with Him daily. Read the Word, and Holy Spirit will reveal things you do not know or previously understood. Is your soul dry and shriveled? Go to His living truth of the Word. Let Him breathe new life with a fresh wind into your very soul!
And, what about prayer? Do our churches have prayer time? Is it only at church or an occasional set time during the week? If prayer moves the heart of Jesus, why is it not held in greater esteem by church leaders? God is waiting for us to praise Him wholeheartedly with our God-given breath. He is waiting to hear our petitions.
Maybe today, you need to stretch out before Him. Lay down and let Him breathe fresh life, energy, and joy into you. Let Him encourage your dry, dead bones so they can come to life again!
“The spirit God breathed into man is like a living lamp, a shining light searching into the innermost chamber of our being.” Proverbs 20:27 (TPT)
“At the very moment I called out to you, you answered me! You strengthened me deep within my soul and breathed fresh courage into me.” Psalm 138:3 (TPT)
“Everything you speak to me is like joyous treasure, filling my life with gladness. I have determined in my heart to obey whatever you say, fully and forever!” Psalms 119:112 (TPT)
“Your promises are the source of my bubbling joy; the revelation of your Word thrills me
like one who has discovered hidden treasure.” Psalms 119:162 (TPT)
My daughter recently had a baby boy! I had the wonderful privilege to be in the labor room. When her baby boy was delivered, I waited for his first breath to occur. I counted a few seconds, and then the critical cry came! Hallelujah! I was happy and grateful to hear him breathe and cry! I was glad he breathed in. God is waiting for you to breathe Him in. He’s already breathed His love, His life, and very breath into you! Holy Spirit, pour your fragrance of joy into me as I move and have my being in you, listening carefully. Unclog my ears, Jesus! I want to love you with all my heart!
Lord, breathe your Holy Spirit life into me again! Let me place you above everything. Holy Spirit, please forgive me when I do not hear your breath, your words in my ears. Help us to be more attentive to your guidance, your leading, and your impressions upon our heart. May we bring you so much glory, praise, and honor. In Jesus’ Name, we pray, Amen.
